I visited for the first time on Monday 28th September 2015 while on holiday with my wife. There do not seem to any ringable towers in Boscastle and since our B&B owner knew the folks at Tintagel he set things up for a visit. Getting a signal on my mobile was hit and miss (mostly miss) all week. While I have run in Corwall once before, on the Lizard peninsula, ringing at Tintagel was an interesting experience. I was told that they only ring call changes so felt that I should be ok. However, they ring them a little differently to what I am familiar with. The first difference is the speed at which they ring, much faster. They also have very long ropes and ring with a coil which I found really disconcerting. I was made very welcome and over the course of the evening I rang all six bells. I thoroughly enjoyed the ringing though I must admit to feeling a little more exercised than usual.
The Bells
The tower has a ring of 6 bells with a tenor weighing 7-0-10 in G. Dove's Guide includes details of the bells at St Merteriana and more information is provided by the Truro Diocesan Guild of Ringers.
