Peterchurch, St Peter
The Peterchurch Parish Church of St Peter is located on the west side of the B4348 and bounded to the north by Church Road. There is a car park on Church Road.
The church is set in an attractive, sizable, churchyard that is bounded to the west by the River Dore. As you approach Peterchurch along the B4348 there is no problem spotting the distinctive spire. From the outside the church appears quite conventional even though the original stone spire has been replaced by one made of fibreglass. The inside has undergone a recent transformation which results, IMHO, in a spectacular blend of the traditional and the contemporary. The extensive use of oak has been recognised by The Wood Awards and was winner of one of the 2010 awards. More about the transformation.
The ringing room is not on the ground floor, it can be reached by climbing an oak staircase. However, unusually, it can also be reached by a lift provided for disabled access! The ringing room doubles as a local authority library.

My first visit on Saturday 30th April 2011 for a practical session during the Hereford Ringing Course. I was here for a little relaxation and to ring 6 bells rather than the eight bells I'd come to learn. I rang up bell #5 and rang down the tenor. In between I rang Grandsire Doubles, Plain Bob Doubles, Plain Bob Minor plus some rounds and call changes. All the bells went fine except the tenor which sometimes "stuck". It only affected my once while ringing it but we had to abandon a touch of Bob Minor when the tenor ringer suffered from the problem.
The Bells
The tower has a ring of 6 bells with a tenor weighing 9-3-1 in G. Dove's Guide includes details of the bells at St Peter with more information provided by the Hereford Diocesan Guild of bellringers.
