Ross-on-Wye, St Mary the Virgin
The Ross-on-Wye Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin is located on the west side of this small market town overlooking the River Wye.
The church is set in a large attractive churchyard with views to the west over the River Wye. The ringing room is reached by climbing a 35 step spiral staircase. The steps are wooden but appear to be covers for stone steps. The entrance to the staircase is from outside the tower on the south face. The room is light and airy with windows on three sides and plenty of room for people not ringing.

My first visit on Saturday 30th April 2011 for a practical session during the Hereford Ringing Course. I had found the morning practice at Bridstow rather frustrating so was hoping for a better session this afternoon. I started once again with a touch of Stedman Triples but it fell apart after the first few bobs. My second attempt went much better, we rang through lots and lots of bobs until eventually Jill stopped us. My minder said I was fine though my string left something to be desired. Not surprising! Felt good about it though, the best so far. I found out later that Jill had just kept calling bobs to work me and she hadn't expected it to come around. I think that the heavier bells meant a more leisurely pace which helped me.
I rang down bell #6, nice bells, nice session.
