Thurnby, St Luke
The parish Church of St Luke is on the North side of Main Street and bounded by Church Lane in the middle of Thurnby, a fairly large village on the eastern outskirts of Leicester. There is limited parking on Main Street.
The ringing room is reached by climbing a stone spiral staircase the entrance to which is on the outside of the North-east corner of the tower. The room is fairly spacious with plenty of room for several to sit while the 8 bells are being rung. The is a large clock mechanism with a beam that makes the task on ringing bells #7 and Tenor a little awkward, particularly if you are tall.

I visited for the first time on Saturday 3rd July 2010 as the last church of the Four Shires Guild of Bell Ringers tour. All the bells except the Tenor were up when we arrived and the task of ringing it up fell to me. The only other ring that I managed was a touch of Grandsire Doubles with bells 4, 6 and 8 covering. Both of the bells that I rang went nicely.
The Bells
The tower has a ring of 8 bells with a tenor weighing 12-3-12 in E. Dove's Guide includes details of the bells at St Luke and more information is provided by the Leicester Diocesan Guild.
