Great Hampton, St Andrew

The Church of St Andrew in Great Hampton, Evesham, is situated on the north side of the Pershore road heading west from Evesham towards Pershore. The tower is in the middle of the church between the chancel and the nave and the ringing room is reached by climbing a spiral staircase from inside the church.

I visited for the first time on Monday 24th March 2008 as part of the WDCRA tour prior to the AGM. There is no regular practice at this tower so I took this opportunity to ring here. I rang up bell #7 and rang Rounds and Call Changes. The chap calling the changes, who called to the front, had a very good ear and "coaxed" people into precise timing. We rang quickly and I must admit it did sound very good. These were a nice set of 8 bells that were quite easy to ring and sounded rather nice.

The tower has a peal of 8 bells. All were cast by John Taylor, Loughborough, in 1948.
