Escrick, St Helen
The Church of the St Helen, Escrick is a sizable church in the west of the village adjacent to the A19 and about half way between Selby and York. On the southern edge of churchyard is an entrance that leads to the church car park.
The tower doesn't look to be particularly big but there is plenty of room to ring the bells. The entrance to the tower is a small door in the outside of the tower, a 52 stone step spiral staircase takes you up to the ringing room.

My first visit was on Sunday 11th October 2015. I joined a few people I had been touring York with and with the help of some locals we rang several combinations of bells. We were busy ringing solidly for more than an hour and I lost track of which bells I rang and what was rung. I rang most of the bells from #7 to the Tenor. I know we rang some Rounds & Call Changes to start and followed this with both Stedman Doubles and Triples, Cambridge Minor and Plain Bob Triples. I clearly remember ringing the Tenor to finish as we did something new to me. We rang the back 9 and ended by each bell standing in turn at handstroke, i.e. bell #4 stand, finish the round and at next hardstroke #5 stand, etc. until finall I had to stand the Tenor.
All the bells were nice and easy to ring and very enjoyable mix of ringing.
The Bells
The tower has a ring of 14 bells though a maximum of 12 can be rung at once. The tenor weighs in at 32-2-10 in B. Dove's Guide includes details of the bells at St Helen and more information is provided by the Yorkshire Association of Change Ringers.
