Llanover, St Bartholomew
St Bartholomew's is not particularly easy to find as it is well away from the main part of the village of Llanover that nestles beside the West side of the A4042. It lies it what I now know is a small hamlet, Old Llanover, near the River Usk (Afon Wysg) North West of Llanover.
It is a rather nice old Church in a peaceful churchyard miles from anywhere. The ringing room is accessed by climbing a narrow stone spiral staircase from inside the Church. Hanholds on the staircase are made of "rebar" and are very effective. The ringing room is a not very large white painted room with two windows, since there are only 5 bells it provides plenty of room to ring them.

I visited for the first time on Saturday 17th May 2008 with the WDCRA as part of a Mini-Outing. No sooner did I arrive, late after I spent so long trying to find the Church, than I was invited to ring Plain Bob Doubles. I was stretched as they intended to ring a Touch, something I have been trying to learn. The band of ringers rang quickly and with only five bells it seemed to fly. I was concentrating so much to keep up with the pace that when we ended I was unable to decide if I had actually completed it without an error. It certainly was not perfect but this may have been my second achievement in a day, i.e. a Touch of Plain Bob Doubles as Observation Bell!

My next visit was on Saturday 7th July 2012 as the third tower [1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th (lockout), 7th] of the 2012 Annual Tour of the Four Shires Guild.
I rang a touch of Plain Bob Doubles on bell #5 (the Tenor) and found that you need to keep working at it or it will start to drop. I later rang bell #4 for a touch of Gransire Doubles followed by a touch of Stedman Doubles.
The Bells
Today, the tower has a ring of 5 bells cast by Mears & Stainbank with a tenor weighing 5-2-24. Dove's Guide includes details of the bells at St Bartholomew's Church.
