Shotteswell, St Lawrence
The Shotteswell parish Church of St Lawrence is tucked away in the middle of this small village on the South side of Chapel Lane. The Church is beside a narrow stretch of the lane and on quite an incline. Parking nearby is not easy but there is some space up the hill from the Church. For a small church it has a large church yard with the bulk of it on the south side and it is nicely maintained with open views to the South.
The ringing room is on the ground floor but a little higher than the nave with a couple of steps up from the nave, presumably in light of the tower being higher up the hill, and has a small window high up on the West wall which lets in some natural light. The space is not large and has a large clock mechanism in one corner but it is sufficient to ring the six bells without any difficulty. The bells sound nice.
2010-07-15
I visited for the first time on Thursday 15th July 2010 for the "Two Hundred and Fourtyninth Mid-week Outing" of the Four Shires Guild of Bell Ringers. I rang a touch of Grandsire Doubles on bell #3 and ended by ringing down bell #4. Both bells that I rang went nicely.
The Bells
The tower has a ring of 6 bells with a tenor weighing 9-1-0 in G. Dove's Guide includes details of the bells at St Lawrence and more information is provided by the Coventry Diocesan Guild.
