Bath, Abbey Church of St Peter and St Paul
The Abbey is situated in the centre of Bath, a short walk from the River Avon. The City of Bath is a World Heritage Site and attacts huge numbers of visitors. Driving in Bath is not recommended, find a car park.
There are 212 steps to the top of the tower but the ringing room is a slightly shorter climb. The entrance to the first spiral staircase is at the east end of the Abbey and the staircase has 121 steps before reacing a cross walk to the tower itself. A further 49 steps leads to the ringing room. The ringing room is large with plenty of room to ring the 10 bells and lots of seating for anyone not ringing.

I visited for the first time on Saturday 12th May 2012 as the first tower
[2nd,

of the 2012 Tower Outing
of the Studley Ringers.
There were only 11 of us so we were kept very busy during our hour at the Abbey. I have seen two people ring up a bell but this was the first time that I had to get involved. Mike and I rang up the Tenor. Bells #7, #8 and #9 were rung up individually and we rang up the fron 6 in peal.
I rang bell #9 for Rounds and Call Changes. I then rang bell #6 for a touch of Grandsire Triples on the front 8 followed by bell #5 for some Stedman Triples, again on the front 8. I ended by ringing the tenor for some more Rounds and Call Changes and then ringing it down.
I'm sure we rang more than this but since I rang every time I lost track of everthing we did. All the bells that I rang were nice an straightforward to handle.
The Bells
The tower has a ring of 10 bells with a tenor weighing 33-0-25 in C. Dove's Guide includes details of the bells at the Abbey, additional information is provided by the Bath and Wells Diocesan Association.
