Caversfield, St Laurence
The parish Church of St Laurence, Caversfield is situated on the east side of the B4100 next to Caversfield House and about half a mile from the main body of the village. Take care not to turn in to Caversfield House or to try and park there. The local Bicester branch suggests parking opposite, in the lane to Home Farm.
The churchyard seems quite overgrown but on the north side of the church is a well tended section that includes Commonwealth War Graves of, mostly, airmen connected with RAF Bicester.
Ringing takes place on the ground floor and nothing separates the area from the nave. There are three small windows in the tower that let in some natural light. In the rear left corner of the tower is a bell that is reputed to be the oldest inscribed bell in England, cast circa 1200CE.

My first visit was on Thursday 18th April 2013 as the first tower
[2nd,
3rd,
4th]
of the 282nd Mid-week Outing
of the
Four Shires Guild.
With more than 20 ringers and only 5 bells there is not much time on a rope. I started by ringing up bell #4 and a little later rang #4 again for a touch or Grandsire Doubles.
The Bells
The tower has a ring of 5 bells with a tenor weighing 4-3-16 in Db. Dove's Guide includes details of the bells at St Laurence and more information is provided by the Oxford Diocesan Guild of Church Bell Ringers.
