Islip, St Nicholas
The parish Church of St Nicholas, Islip is situated in the middle of the village between the High Street and Church Lane. I parked at the village hall beside Church Lane across the road from the church.
Tradition tells us that Edward the Confessor was born in Islip and that he was baptised here.
The ringing room is reached by climbing the 37 steps of a clockwise stone spiral staircase. The bottom of the staircase is entered via a door in the south face of the tower.

My first visit was on Thursday 18th April 2013 as the third tower
[1st,
2nd,
4th]
of the 282nd Mid-week Outing
of the
Four Shires Guild.
I started by ringing up bell #5 in what was described as a nice rise
. Later I rang bell #3 for a touch of Grandsire Triples. Nice bells to ring and pleasant sounding too.
The Bells
The tower has a ring of 8 bells with a tenor weighing 8-1-7 in G. Dove's Guide includes details of the bells at St Nicholas and more information is provided by the Oxford Diocesan Guild of Church Bell Ringers.
